How are you really?

September 14th is RUOK day in Australia, it should be world wide.  Have you ever been asked are you ok, to just say yes I'm fine?  When really you would love to talk about a problem with a friend.

Well today take some time out of your day and ask family and friends RUOK?  Lend an ear so they can get their problems off their chest.  You never know you might be able to help in some way and offer a solution.  Or just listening over a cup of tea/coffee is sometimes enough.  Its nice to  know someone cares enough to take time out of their busy day to ask RUOK. Be courageous and open up.  Don't feel embarrassed, for all you know that person may have been in a similar situation.

So ask RUOK? and when the person says YES ask again..... Are you REALLY ok?   It can take a bit of nudging to get someone to open up.

To all my friends out there in blog land RUOK?  I hope you are, but I'm here if you need to share. You can email me if you don't want to leave a comment. lindylouthomas1979@gmail.com

And yes I'm ok, couldn't be better at the moment.  Life is good!

  1. I think this is an excellent idea! It's always easier to say 'fine' and it's a real friend that stops long enough to ask again, "Are you really fine?"

As for me, I am fine. Worried about Nick's mom always, but personally I'm still loving retirement and the time to write. Glad you are good too.

    1. Thanks for dropping by PK. Nick's mums health must be a real concern. I remember when Bears mum went through it, so hard watching her declining and losing herself. Stay strong and positive. (((HUGS)))

  3. Hello Lindy!
What a great tradition. We should do this all over the world. And you picked a good day for it. After all of the terrible crap we've been dealing with over hear, today was actually quite mellow. This is due, in part, to all of the support and love from you and the other bloggers. Yes, Amy is OK2Day. :)

  7. We have a Bell Let's Talk day here ( put on by the phone company) for mental health awareness. I suppose the premise is the same. Life has been shaky at times here for various reasons, but thankfully Barney is my anchor- um in a good way not weighing me down! LOL.

Happy to hear that things couldn't be better there Lindy. That is fantastic!

  11. Love this idea, Lindy. RUOK has become a rather meaningless greeting. The best friends are the best listeners. I do appreciate this group of bloggers. We are there for each other.

There are so many life happenings that I can talk about here. You are one of many who really open your mind and heart.

I tried to make it a cornerstone of my teaching. Even kept a simple tally so I would give the quiet children a voice, too.

    Great post!
    Sending Hugs Downunder,
    Ella

    1. I agree Ella, the best friends are the best listeners. We all need a shoulder occasionally to cry on. A problem shared is a problems halved.

  12. Funny how we have gotten so distant from each other or perhaps so walled off that we don't feel like we can share our deepest thoughts. I'm glad there are reminders like this to really ask and listen. :-)

  13. Hi Lindy,
I love this idea and have heard of similar things here as well. I have often wished I were better at just being able to listen to others and shut my mind off from whatever I was dealing with.

  14. Hi Lindy,:) I don't know how I missed this! What a great idea this is. I don't think that we have such a thing here, but it sure would be nice to have in place. Excellent!

I'm happy that you are okay, and enjoying life. I am A-OK too! The kids are well, and happy. Rob has a positive job prospect that we hope will pan out. Fingers crossed! :) I've been busy with weaving activities. And there is this handsome, spanky man that I love Love LOVE! LOL! Thanks for asking us all. An important and excellent question/day. I agree, it should be worldwide. Many hugs,

    <3 Katie

  15. This is a really sweet tradition and something that could just be part of every day caring. I am very glad you are doing well. I am known for politely saying "I am fine, thank-you" regardless of my true feelings but today I can truly say I am fine. :-) And thank-you for asking. :-) Hugs to you
