Noisy residence!

Meet our latest visitors.  We arrived home from our shopping trip today to find we not only have one koala, but two in our tree outside our bedroom.  Last night we heard weird noises which were similar to a motor bike revving.  Apparently it is mating season so the buck in the close ups was trying to get the female hiding amongst the leaves,  interested in a bit of sex.

Our neighbour told us if she has a baby in her pouch, he will kill it just to have sex with her.  Obviously koalas don't stick to one partner. Guess tonight is going to be another noisy night.

So for years we have heard overseas people ask do kangaroos and koalas really walk down the street in Australia.  Living in the city our answer to that was no they are only found in paddocks.  Well after living in our current area we can now answer yes they do.  It is not uncommon to see a koala wonder inside a shop or down the street past all the cafes.  Kangaroos roam up and down the streets and also when we drive to Mt Gambier in South Australia from our house we also see heaps of emus wandering around the pine plantations.  We are never too old to learn something new.

  3. They do look so sweet. Like little teddy bears. But we know from experience that wildlife in the city is not always cute. Especially big bears!

    1. Hi Ella, Yes I know a particular big bear that I live with can be sweet until he has a weapon of ass destruction in his hands. lol!
Koalas do looks sweet and cuddly but wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of them with their sharp claws.

  4. Deers can also make horrible noises during mating season. We have them in our back yard often, but evidently they don't mate around here. I would enjoy seeing Koalas and Kangaroos reasonable up close.

    1. You'll have to plan a trip down under once you retire PK. I would love to see deers up close, didn't realise they made loud noises also.

    1. As they say Ronnie, you can't judge a book by its cover. They look sweet and innocent but can turn quickly. I would love to see deers.

    1. It is really an amazing place to live Jan. We had a koala earlier in the year on the down pipe in the back yard and I actually patted it. Felt so soft.

  7. We do get kangaroos down the main street! Mumski and I live on the urban fringe and we still get the occasional mob of roos crashing around the reserve opposite our house. Then they decide that they would like to eat the lamandras and salt bush in our front garden; saves on pruning!
