HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY

Happy Australia Day to my fellow Aussie bloggers. I know back on love our lurkers day a few of you ventured out to say G'day.

Seriously with a continent the size of Australia  7.692 million km² and a population of  24,931,182  people there has to be more spankos living in this sunny land besides Don and myself.

So C'mon Aussie C'mon C'mon

Hope you all enjoy celebrating our special day with a bbq with family and friends. Some delicious bbq lamb followed by a lamington or pavlova, what more could an Aussie ask for?  My Bear has made me some delicious gluten free lamingtons.

Delicious

Maybe a bit of beach cricket.

My Country - Poem by Dorothea Mackeller
The love of field and coppice
Of green and shaded lanes,
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins.
Strong love of grey-blue distance,
Brown streams and soft, dim skies
I know, but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

The stark white ring-barked forests,
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon,
Green tangle of the brushes
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops,
And ferns the warm dark soil.

Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When, sick at heart, around us
We see the cattle die
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady soaking rain.

Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the rainbow gold,
For flood and fire and famine
She pays us back threefold.
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze ...

An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand
though Earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly.

I have only crossed the ditch once to Queensland. Definitely should plan another trip! Btw we know where the pavlova originated :) (sorry, I just had to lol).

  8. Lindy, that is such a beautiful poem! I just love it - especially the "sunburnt" country and waiting for the rains. Just lovely. Happy Australia Day to you! The BBQ sounds delicious. Too cold for that here!

I could not access the song from your link, but I googled it, and it is quite a poignant song.

Sending Salutations and Hugs Down Under,

    1. G'day Ella, I remember having to recite that poem in school many moons ago. Its always been one of my favourites. Beautiful weather here at the moment.
I didn't think those links worked. Not sure how to rectify that though.

    1. G'day Katie, I remember you telling me in an email Rob wants to view the stars down here. Whenever I'm outside around 3am with the puppies nature call, I stand there viewing them and thinking of you. Some nights it takes my breath away how many stars are visible.
Hope you can make it down here one day and come to visit us.

  10. Happy Oz Day to us,
and at last we beat the poms at cricket. And what a day it was; hot, crowded beaches, lots of barbies (not the doll) and fireworks (my favourite). Hope you and Bear had a wonderful day!

    2. Happy Oz Day Don, We did have a wonderful day with a barbie and beautiful sunshine. There was a terrible accident here though with a paraglider crashing onto rocks below the cliffs. So that dampened everyone's spirits a bit. Apart from that it was fun.
