Interesting question Ella. We have always experienced Christmas in summer down here, so we don't know any different.
I suppose our celebrations might be different compared to other countries where its cold or snowing. The weather can go from one extreme to the other though. Sometimes we are celebrating Christmas with a cold chilly day, others it can be stinking hot.
My family used to make a traditional Christmas meal of roast meat, either turkey or chicken with roast vegetables. Followed by Christmas pudding, custard and cream. Sitting there on really hot days trying to act cool whilst eating HOT meals wasn't our idea of fun.
Over the years our tastes have changed, now we basically have cold meat or a bbq, with salads followed by pavlova.
Much better on days when the temperature can reach up to 40c/104f.
Afterwards some people relax by playing beach cricket.
Cheers Ella!
This is the part you'd enjoy, sipping on a nice cold beer, chillaxing. As we don't have snow, farmers in the area decorate hay bales in various ways. Each year they seem to do a different thing and now its become a competition to see who can decorate the best.
Although I do enjoy our summer Christmas, I'd really love to experience a white Christmas. I think that would be so wonderful. I guess we always want the opposite. LOL!
Thank you for your question Ella, I hope this answered it for you. It was fun thinking about it and comparing.

Hi Lindy,
ReplyDeleteI love this question, and the pics! Coming from down under also I would also love to experience a white Christmas.
Much like you the meal is often a mixture of roast and bbq meats, roast veg and salads. The weather can be fickle here too, last Christmas day was quite chilly and drizzly.
Hugs
Roz
Wouldn't it be so nice Roz to experience a white Christmas. Our Christmas day was warmish so we enjoyed our salads and cold meat.
DeleteMaybe we'll have to visit our friends on the other side of the world one Christmas.

oh santa bales are funny! I have never seen that before. So cool. um, or HOT, rather.
ReplyDeleteThank you Fondles, you'll have to visit downunder one Christmas. The farmers get quite imaginative with their decorating.

hi Lindy, I can't imagine a hot Christmas, we don't really get a white one often either. It is just meh......lol
ReplyDeletelove Jan, xx
Hi Jan, Oh I thought you would have had a white one over there. Pity would be better than meh. Never mind the main thing is to enjoy all the family time.

Love reindeer and Santa bales, Lindy! .... We rarely have a white Christmas where we live. More likely to be wet and grey and if it were a sunny day, then it would be still too cold for any outside celebrations. Good thing weather doesn't make it Christmas :)) ... you are right, Lindy, family time is most important .... nj ... xx
ReplyDeleteIt would be disastrous if Christmas depended on the weather. Sorry folks Christmas is cancelled due to the rain. LOL!

I enjoyed this question. Christmas has always been cold here; I think were I in a warm place, it wouldn't feel right!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you would enjoy Christmas in the sun if need be Lea. I'll swap with you one year. LOL!

Hello there, Lindy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for answering my question. Sorry about being so under the weather for so long. Finally feeling like my old self!
I love the idea of Christmas in the summer. Something yummy on the barbie and cold beer. What fun! I would so enjoy a Christmas Down Under. Something to dream about.

The one time of the year that I love living in this climate, is Christmas time. There is nothing like a white christmas , even better having the snow fall when you go to or come out of church services. hugs abby
ReplyDeleteThat would be magical Abby, also caroling in the snow would be wonderful.

Very fun idea of decorating those hay bales.
ReplyDelete--Baker
Thank you Baker. The farmers come up with some great ideas around here.

Hi, Lindy. :) I never thought about the hot meal on a hot day, but that makes perfect sense. :) Though, I think I would be sad to not have the turkey, stuffing, turnips, squash, potatoes, parsnips, and the like all hot. :) We don't do a big meal often, but we love our Christmas one. :) Thank you for sharing. Loved the hay bales, looks a little funny to not be snowmen when I'm so used to seeing them that way, but I love how they thought outside the box for it! :)
ReplyDeleteEsMay
Hi EsMay, we did miss our hot meals to start with, now we are used to salads. Much better for our weather.
